Hair Loss and what can be done?

Male Pattern Baldness:

On an average, there are 90,000 to 150,000 hair your scalp, the hair grow from roots known as follicles. Blood vessels at the base of each follicle gives nourishment that is vital for the growth of hair. Hair growth in root happens in a cycle that is independent to each other. Every time about 90% of the hair on the scalp are in the growth phase and the remaining 10% are in the resting phase. The growth phase of hair can last up to five years and after that the follicle goes in a resting phase and that can last upto four months. At the end of this phase, the hair falls and is replaced by a new hair and this is a very normal part of the growth cycle. On a typical day, up to 150 hairs can be lost and it is considered very normal. Baldness is attracted when hair loss is in avert high rate and the rate of hair replacement is slow or when the normal hairs are replaced by some weaker hair.

 

What is Male Pattern Baldness?

All the cases of hair loss almost is the result of Male pattern baldness or it is also known as androgenetic alopecia. This is very common in men as compared to women. If we take only mild cases into the picture, it effects around 50 million men in the United States. This can happen at any age after puberty. Some of the cases of hair loss is reversible, but male pattern baldness tends to be permanent. It happens in a very typical pattern on the scalp. The reason for Male pattern baldness: It can be a combination of hormonal and genetic factors. Hair transplantation:

In this process, healthy follicles which are live are removed from a donor site on the scalp and it is transplanted to the balding area. These follicles are taken commonly in plugs of one hair to two hairs from the sides or back of the head and moved to the balding area with the hairline being slowly reconstructed. In this process, larger plugs may be used. Donor sites with full hair are helpful in making the transplant more successful. Some scarring might happen. These transplanted follicles are permanent usually. In some transplant process, synthetic hair has also been used but there are chances of infection in this process and thus it is banned. Along with any surgical procedure, hair transplantation has some risks  and hence you should consult a doctor if you are planning a transplant.

 

A hairpiece can be made custom to cover a balding area, but they might fade over time, hence it is important to clean the scalp under the hairpiece regularly. The other option is a weave and in this process, fake hair is sewn into the existing hair.

 

Some natural ways that you can follow to prevent hair loss:

 

1.) Diet: What we eat is very important. A diet high in protein, Omega 3 fatty acids, and a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables and vitamins such as iron, biotin, Vitamin D, Vitamin C and Zinc. There all are very good for hair growth.

 

2.) Avoid hair styling products: Products like gel and hair wax, they might give you a very attractive look while using it but for the long run it is very harmful for our scalp and it causes hair loss.

 

3.) Use a shampoo that is mild and perfect for your hair: Know your hair type, and as discussed above in this article, don’t use shampoo which has more chemical to enhance its fragrance, as it can be harmful for hair and even for our brain, instead use a natural product, read the ingredients used.

 

4.) Use a soft brush or hair comb: Some combs are very sharp and it may damage our scalp, use comb daily but not a sharp one.

 

5.) Stop Smoking: Smoking has only bad effects and hair loss is one of them. Smoking can prematurely age your hair cells and hence you may start losing hair early in life.

 

6.) Exercise: It helps to boost our immune system and immune system is related to our hair cells.
